Tapas & Paella

When our customers visit us, they don’t come here just to eat but to enjoy an evening of music, friendship and fun. Our main theme is the Spanish culture and cuisine, with its authentic flavor and colorful art. From the unique Spanish Tapas (appetizer-size portions of entrees) to the famous Spanish Paella, there is no place like Emilio’s to enjoy the authentic taste of Spain.

The custom developed serving a slice of ham, some olives, or other tidbits on a little plate that covered the mouth of the sherry glass.  A cover or a lid in Spanish is called a “tapa” (tapar means “to cover”), and thus the word became associated with appetizer food.

Tapas are really about portion size – just about any food in small amounts becomes a tapa, so many tapas together can become a first course or even a main meal.  Order several varieties of tapas and you have a lively tapas party.  The possibilities are endless!

About The Owner: Chad started his restaurant career at a young age. He became a general manager of a local Richmond restaurant by age 23. In 2003, Chad partnered with Emilio creating Emilio’s Restaurant as we know it today. Emilio had a vast background in the restaurant business here in the US as well as in Spain. Emilio competed and placed in the International Paella Contests in Valencia Spain.

After 8 years of partnership, Chad took over the restaurant but kept the same Spanish recipes. Chad spent time in Spain with Emilio learning about the Spanish culture. The Spanish way of life is all about food, friends and family, and living in the moment. Chad strives to ensure that everyone that steps into Emilio’s will experience the Spanish way. From the live music to the award-winning paella, Emilio’s brings a little bit of Spain to RVA
